P-2602R-D1A and opened port problem

BillyShears
Guys, sorry to write here in English, but my Dutch is not so good to discuss questions like this.

I have a good known problem with port opening. I have 20MB Adsl from Telfort, modem Zyxel P-2602R-D1A (provided by Telfort) + router Sitecom WL-183. But for clear experiment I've connected my laptop directly to Zyxel via LAN cable.
I've read (using Google translator Shock ) this forum, I've found an example for Emule here: http://telfort.gebruikers.eu/viewtopic.php?t=2775 , adopted this solution for Torrent (I used ports, started from 65200). So I have all necessary firewall rules created, everything seems to be OK, but uTorrent still says: "Port 65200 does not appear to be open." and shows me the yellow icon "no incoming connections".

May be it's a standard Telfort's feature - to keep clients ports closed and I simply don't know it? Did I do something wrong with Zyxel or Laptop configuration?
Please, help me. Thanks a lot in advance.

If you enable uPnP on both uTorrent and the Zyxel, uTorrent should be able to open it's desired port.

In my opinion, UPnP should only be considered as a last resort. The ZyXEL modem is perfectly able to forward ports, Telfort doesn't block any traffic.

When I used Azureus (which I assume is pretty similar to uTorrent) I found that using www.portforward.com it's not so difficult to configure the modem. They have just about every router and every application listed. Just beware that they assume your router's firewall is OFF. Having the firewall ON means you need to create a corresponding Permit-rule for each forwarded port.

You can post your NAT and Firewall settings here if you wish, that should make things clearer.

P.S. once you get things working, make sure you add the Sitecom configured as a switch&accesspoint and connect it through one of its LAN ports. If not, you're going to double your port forwarding complexity.

P.S.#2 be aware that bittorrent clients may take a while to change colors from yellow to green. If you can download faster than a few kbyte/s (also depending on your dsl connection speed of course) it means you've configured it well enough, no matter what the color indicator reads. At one point I was recieving at 600kByte/s and the indicator was still yellow...

Thanks a lot for You answers!

I'll try to write down the settings I've changed for my Zyxel (192.168.0.1).
1) NAT.

Active Network Address Translation(NAT)
SUA Only [x]
Full Feature [ ]
Max NAT/Firewall Session Per User [6000]

Rule:
ServiceName StartPort EndPort PortTranslation StartPort EndPort IPAddress
Bit65201 65201 65210 65201 65210 192.168.0.3 (My laptop IP)

ALG Settings
Enable SIP ALG [ ] (not marked)

2) Firewall
Active Firewall [x]
Bypass Triangle Route [ ]

WAN to LAN [Permit]
LAN to WAN [Permit]
WAN to WAN / Router [Permit]
LAN to LAN / Router [Permit]

Customized Services:

Service Name [Bit652001]
Service Type [TCP/UDP]

Type [Port Range]
Port Number From [65201] To [65210]

Packet Direction [WAN to LAN] (the same rules are active for all directions)

Active SourceIP DestinationIP Service Action Schedule Log
[x] Any Any Bit65201 Permit No No

3) Laptop
IP = 192.168.0.3 (Static IP or DHCP via Zyxel)
Netmask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = 192.168.0.1

uTorrent and port 65201 are added into the list of Firewall exceptions.

That's all.

That looks quite allright, you're doing pretty good on your own.
Just to be sure, you don't need any other packet direction than WAN to LAN for this to work.

Make sure you enter the correct linstening port in uTorrent's settings. (e.g., http://www.portfo...orrent.htm)

By the way, how's the download speed for your torrents?

As I said - I created the same rules for all directions (just to be sure), I've checked all manuals on portforwarding.com - but yellow icon is always shown by uTorrent.

Download speed is high - up to 2MByte/sec. Upload speed is also high (sometimes), the problem that ratio is ugly low because nobody can connect me directly (only through DHT), so trackers ban me.

Is your pc running a personal firewall? If so, have you instructed to let uTorrent through?
What about the Listening Port, which port is it set to? Is Randomize checked or unchecked?

One more thing: you had better make Drop the default action for the WAN to LAN firewall setting.
While you're doing that, turn on the Log option as well, your Logs will tell you what's the reason why incoming connections are not coming trhough.

[Unnecessary quote has been removed]

I have no Personal Firewall on my PC except the standard Windows XP Firewall. And port in uTorrent config is set statically to 65201. Btw, I tested with different ports (6112, 6881, 10001) - no luck.

I'll change action to Drop and will try to find something particular in log-files, I'll let You know. Thanks a lot.

Is there something strange in log?

UPD: uTorrent changed icon to a red one "Not connectable", DL speed is low (100k/s), upload speed is 0. The last messages in log-file are: "Exceed MAX incomplete..."

Judging from your logs nothing is being stopped so far. Just the incoming traffic on port 2233 and 2234 is not being listened to I guess since the firewall finally gives up. My $0.02 says that you need to forward more than port 65201, but I'm certainly no expert on bittorrents (I stopped using them because uploading is illegal).

Perhaps you'll have more luck using UPnP, which I'm not a big fan of (without your knowledge it opens ports that are otherwise closed).
